Best Tennis Players (Male)

Roger Federer

Roger Federer (born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss tennis professional. Currently he is ranked as World No.1. player. He has won ten Grand Slam men's singles titles in 31 appearances, three Tennis Masters Cup titles, and twelve ATP Masters Series titles. In 2004, the Swiss professional Federer became the first man since Mats Wilander in 1988 to win three of four Grand Slam singles tournaments in the same year. In 2006, he repeated this feat and became the first man in the open era to win at least ten singles tournaments in three consecutive years.
Federer is also the only player to have won both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open singles titles in three consecutive years (2004-2006). After winning his third Australian Open title, he became the only male player to have won three separate Grand Slam tournaments three times.
He has been ranked No. 1 in the world since February 2, 2004 and holds the all-time record for most consecutive weeks as the top-ranked male player. On April 2, 2007 he was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for a record third consecutive time.


Pete Sampras

Peter "Pete" Sampras (b. August 12, 1971, in Washington, D.C.) is a former World No. 1 tennis player from the U. S. In his 15 year career, he won a record of 14 Grand Slam men's singles titles in 52 appearances and finished the year as No. 1 on the ATP rankings for six consecutive years. Pete won the singles title at Wimbledon seven times, an all-time record shared with William Renshaw. He also won five singles titles at the U.S. Open, an open era record shared with Jimmy Connors. Bud Collins has named Pete as one of the top five men's tennis players of all-time, and TENNIS Magazine has named him the greatest player from 1965 through 2005. On January 17, 2007, Sampras was inducted into the 2007 class of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.


Bjorn Borg

Bjorn Borg (born June 6, 1956, in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former World No. 1 tennis player. He is regarded as the greatest player in the tennis sports history. During his 9-year career, he won 41 percent of the Grand Slam singles tournaments he entered (11 of 27) and 89.8 percent of the Grand Slam singles matches he played. Both are male open era records. In addition, Bjorn's six French Open singles titles are an all-time record. He is the only player to have won in three consecutive years both Wimbledon and the French Open.

Martina Navratilova

Martina Navratilova (born October 18, 1956, Czech Republic) is a former World No. 1 woman tennis player. "She's the greatest singles, doubles and mixed doubles player who's ever lived" as said by Billie Jean King. As a serve and volley player, her best surface was grass, although Martina did capture at least two Grand Slam singles titles on each surface and won a career Grand Slam in singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
Originally from Czechoslovakia, she defected to the U. S. in 1975 and became a U.S. citizen in 1981. During her career, Martina won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and 41 Grand Slam doubles titles (31 women's doubles and 10 mixed doubles). Even she won the women's singles title at Wimbledon a record 9 times.



Steffi Graf

Stefanie Maria Graf (born June 14, 1969, in Mannheim, West Germany), better known to the world as Steffi, is a former World No. 1 ranked female tennis player from Germany. Considered to be one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. Steffi won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other player – male or female – has won since the start of the open era.
In 1988, steffi became the only player, male or female, to win the "Golden Slam" – capturing all four Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold medal in the same year. She was ranked the Women's Tennis Association's No. 1 player for a record 377 weeks – the longest of any player, male or female, since rankings began – and is the only player to have won all four Grand Slam singles tournaments (Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, the French Open and the Australian Open) at least four times each. Graf also holds the record (eight) for most years as year end number one.
Steffi retired in 1999, giving her the distinction of being the highest ranked player to retire.Steffi is married to the former World No. 1 men's tennis player Andre Agassi.

Chris Evert

Christine Marie Evert (born December 21, 1954) is a former World No. 1 woman tennis player from the U. S. During her career, she won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record 7 at the French Open. Chris also won 3 Grand Slam doubles titles. Her career win-loss record in singles matches of 1,309-146 (.900) is the best of any professional player in tennis history. In his book The Greatest Tennis Matches of the Twentieth Century, tennis writer Steve Flink has named her as the third best female player of the 20th century, after Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova.
